Change is hard. Change can be scary.
2020 was certainly a year of change.
Seemingly overnight our whole world changed. From the way we worked to the way we lived. But we adapted. We found a way to succeed. And we learned what’s important.
From changing the way we shop to changing the way we are paid, 2020 brought a fresh perspective on areas of our life that we thought would remain the same forever.
But change is in my DNA. Five years ago I set out to make an impactful change in the lives of every American worker. But I had to disrupt an antiquated system that had been around for centuries. I learned to enact change you must be willing to fight for something you believe in. You must be guided by values and principles that keep you grounded and focused on your mission.
When we sat down to articulate our company values, we knew they had to align with our unwavering mission to support the American worker. The values had to speak to our grit, dedication and authenticity as we work to create a culture that fosters growth for ourselves as individuals and for the company as a whole. We appreciate the unique traits and competencies of each of our team members, and we never forget that each of us plays an integral role in our holistic success.
Today, we don’t just talk about these 7 values, we live and breathe them every day. They help guide us in all of our endeavors and are embedded in every decision we make and in the way we work. They are our North Star — and with them — we can change the world, one day at a time.
My 7 Values
Value 1 | Do Your Research
Do Your Research – Knowledge is power. Study, internalize and research so you can have a well-reasoned view. It’s about being prepared but also understanding that your view can change and evolve as you continue to do your research.
Value 2 | Start Simple
Start Simple – When taking on something new, the key is to just get started. Don’t worry about automating everything, or having the perfect answer. Start simple. Test, learn, iterate.
Value 3 | See The Circle
See The Circle – Everyone is part of this bigger mission and we are all working toward the same goal. Regardless of what you’re working on, you have a circle of colleagues that surround you. Involve them early and often, because it will make us stronger.
“I learned to enact change you must be willing to fight for something you believe in. You must be guided by values and principles that keep you grounded and focused on your mission.”
— Jason Lee
Value 4 | Pull The Wagon
Pull The Wagon – Winning takes teamwork, ambition and diligence, not egos. Pitch in and do whatever it takes to move the company forward. Leaders pull the wagon alongside the team. They don’t issue orders from it. Set the example. You’ll also probably learn more by doing so.
Value 5 | Move The Line
Move The Line – Every day, in everything you do, challenge yourself and move the line. Push your own boundaries by focusing on incremental improvement. Be forward-thinking. Embrace change and innovation.
Value 6 | We Win With Diversity
We Win With Diversity – Diversity is more than just the sum of our many parts. It’s our superpower — not just the right thing to do, but how we win. Whether through diversity of our backgrounds, experience, opinions or views, it’s how we build a sustainable business.
Value 7 | Act Like an Owner
Act Like an Owner – Decisions are creative opportunities for expansiveness. Be greedy for the best long-term outcome, even if it causes short-term sacrifice. Act with purpose and invent the future. Be maniacally focused on building the best long-term solutions for our stakeholders.
What do achievements mean to you?
Achievements are a reflection of one’s dedication and commitment to excellence. It means going the extra mile to differentiate yourself from others and accomplishing the goals you set in place.
